Holistic Healing with CBD Products

CBD oil has become one of the world’s most talked about and studied remedies for a host of medical and psychological conditions. Vast amounts of evidence show it to be beneficial in the treatment of pain, inflammation, diseases, and mental disorders of all types. It is safe, legal in most regions, and it works.

Scientists have discovered another transmission system beyond neurotransmitters that is equally important for the proper health and functioning of humans. It is called the endocannabinoid system, and it plays an integral role in our daily lives, affecting everything from mood, appetite, pain perception, fertility and much more.

Our bodies already have cannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors as part of this system, but sometimes, just as neurotransmitters malfunction, our cannabinoid system malfunctions as well.

It turns out that certain plants have cannabinoids as well, called phytocannabinoids, which originate from marijuana and hemp. When phytocannabinoids are introduced into the human body, they go to work in remarkable ways to keep our bodies in a state of optimum health. Dustin Sulak, a DO in Maine and Massachusetts, has written a beneficial article that has more in-depth information to help you learn about the vital role of the endocannabinoid system.

Understanding The Differences Between Cannabis And Marijuana

A key to finding the correct CBD oil for you lies in understanding the differences between oil that is derived from hemp and oil that is derived from marijuana. Both hemp and marijuana can be used to describe the species of plant known as Cannabis Sativa. The difference between them exists in how they are grown and used. Terms like cannabis, cannabinoids, cannabidiol, and CBD oil can be confusing for consumers looking for a product to help them with healing.

We will try and clear up a little bit of that confusion.

Marijuana describes a Cannabis Sativa plant that has been specifically grown to contain trichomes (small crystals, hairs, or glands) that contain tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. THC is the cannabinoid that is associated with the mind-altering properties that most people associate with Cannabis.

Hemp is also from the Cannabis Sativa species. It is a high yield hardy plant that has been used for centuries to make things like fiber, rope, clothing, ointments, and more. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of dozens of cannabinoids that are specific to Cannabis Sativa. It is found in both hemp and marijuana.

This particular cannabinoid is important because it has powerful medicinal effects that have only been recognized by modern science within the last couple of decades, although it has been in use since antiquity. One of the most notable qualities of CBD is that it is not-psychoactive. In short, the cannabinoid THC produces a variety of sensations associated with being “stoned,” while the cannabinoid CBD does not.

The fact that hemp derived CBD oil is non-psychoactive is critical from a legal perspective. Because a user does not get high when using CBD products, in most states, the sale, possession, and use of it are not subject to the same rules as marijuana.

Variations In CBD Oils

Of all the personal products now being manufactured from hemp, CBD oil is by far at the top of the list. This term is interchangeable too, as some CBD oils are marketed to be used topically, and others are marketed to be ingested. Ingestibles come in tinctures, extracts, capsules and are sold as CBD oil or Hemp oil. Additionally, some users benefit from CBD oil by using a vaporizer and inhaling it (vaping) for faster results and better potency.

Notably, there are also wide variations in the quality and usefulness of different brands. There are many online retailers selling CBD oil, but a closer look at the active ingredients in many of these products show that they contain relatively little, if any Cannabidiol.

One way consumers can get duped into buying a substandard product is with the lack of consistent labeling. A common mistake is that consumers assume that Hemp oil and CBD oil are the same. They are not.

Hemp oil and hempseed oil contain Omega 3’s, B vitamins, magnesium and other healthy ingredients much like olive oil or coconut oil. Considered a food ingredient, it is legal everywhere and can be used in recipes or taken as a supplement. While good for you, it possesses none of the medicinal properties of CBD oil. If you purchase hemp oil from a retailer to treat chronic pain or some other condition, you will be disappointed.

CBD oil derived from hemp is purely medicinal, requires more sophisticated methods of extraction, and is much more expensive to produce. It is made using either a CO2 extraction method or an ethanol extraction method. These are the only two ways to separate the cannabinoids from the plant material. For various reasons, CO2 extraction is preferable. However, ethanol extraction is adequate, provided that the solvents used are safe. Being aware of the method of extraction will help you choose the best product.

In most cases, the purchase and possession of CBD oil that does not contain THC is legal. However, be sure to research your state to be sure of its laws pertaining to Cannabidiol.
